Collen Masunda is a Senior SME Finance Specialist in the Financial Institutions Group at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), based in Washington, DC. He brings more than 15 years of international experience in banking, development finance, and credit information systems, with a strong focus on financial inclusion, SME finance, and innovative risk-sharing solutions.
At IFC, Collen has played a key role in structuring and launching large-scale initiatives, including the US$4 billion MSME Finance Platform and the Natural Disaster Facilities (NDLF and NDGF), which introduce innovative parametric triggers and climate finance solutions for emerging markets. His work spans investment structuring, risk modeling, and engagement with reinsurers to expand underwriting capacity. He also supports pipeline development for MSME financing across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, sourcing over US$250 million in opportunities with NBFIs and fintechs.
Before joining IFC, Collen served as Managing Director of CRIF Hungary and contributed to credit bureau development projects across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He has extensive expertise in international market expansion, credit reporting infrastructure, and advisory services.
Collen holds a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, a Master of Commerce (Development Finance, Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance (Summa Cum Laude) from Midlands State University. He also earned executive education certificates in Project Management and Applied Business Analytics at Boston University, and completed advanced studies in Data Science and Machine Learning at MIT.
He is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA), a Chartered Development Finance Analyst (CDFA), and a Registered Professional Accountant (RPAC).
